A Reality Check in the Rain

Updated: May 24

Hello everyone, my name is Poonam. I want to share an experience from my first visit to Anilpuram village during The Walk event in December.

It was raining heavily that day. While we were wearing raincoats to protect ourselves, I saw that half of the village was submerged in water. Small houses were sheltering around ten people, with their belongings placed on higher levels to save them from the rain.

There was no proper space or shelter. Children stood in cold water, shivering, with no option to escape or complain.

That moment made me realize that for them, rain is not beautiful, it is a struggle. They are not truly living, just surviving.

I understood how much I take for granted. The life I complain about is someone else’s dream.

That day changed my perspective forever.
